mirrAR
MirrAR is an advanced, high-tech mirror with augmented reality features that allows users to change and view themselves in the specific way they desire. This project critically examines beauty standards by presenting a product that perpetuates the notion of conforming to a specific desirable appearance. By choosing to present my project as a user manual, I aimed to tell a story with a balanced blend of images and text, enabling the audience to understand both the functionality of the product and the reasoning behind its creation. The manual also provided space to depict a girl using the mirror, bringing the concept to life.
Even today, society places immense value on what it means to be "beautiful," often equating it with being thinner, having clearer skin, and possessing "ideal" bodily proportions. With the evolution of technology, numerous applications like FaceApp and Snow allow people to photoshop, morph, and alter their appearances. As an active social media user, I have witnessed and experienced the intense focus on beauty online. This issue extends beyond the internet, manifesting in real-life experiences of body shaming and negative judgments based on appearance. I, too, have felt the urge to use apps to change my appearance, believing I did not fit society's standard of "beautiful."
